Secret Diary, Entry Number 3

Last night I had to grab Gene to save him from falling off the branch. He blamed me for it because it was my fault that he was up in the tree and needed to be saved in the first place. It’s whatever though; I understand that he was afraid of almost falling out of the tree.  He could have died if he fell the wrong way. Gene is still my best friend, or at least he is to me. We always play sports together and he is a pretty good athlete who can almost compete with me, not to brag or anything. I think I should always win in sports; there is no bad aspect to sports. The only thing that makes some sports inferior to others is that there isn’t enough action in them like in badminton. We were supposed to be playing badminton one afternoon with everybody else but I didn’t want to play it because that game bores me. I brought Gene and a few of my other friends aside and I started a new sport. We were choosing between some names for our new game when I said “Or just blitzball,” “Yes, blitzball.” And the name stuck. It was a very physical game and I made up rules as we played to make it better. I was really good at it and if there was a winner I think I would have been it.
The next morning Gene and I went over to the pool. It was empty and there was nobody around and I noticed a swim record posted that hadn’t been beaten for years that I thought I could beat even though I wasn’t a swimmer. So, I had Gene time me and I beat it, he seemed excited about it but I wanted to keep quiet about it because I wasn’t even a swimmer and I beat a record that hadn’t been beat in years. That would have been insulting to the swimmers no doubt in my mind. I decided it was time Gene and I left campus and went to the beach. When we got to the beach I told Gene he was my best friend and we talked for awhile about school and our future; it was a solid night. We fell asleep on the beach that night knowing we had to wake up early for the bike ride back to campus the next day.
